Art deco bookends Silvered Bronze Sphinx French by Charles 1920’s
Depicting the full face of the sphinx complete with ornate headdress, these are extremely eye-catching. The silvered finish to the bronze contrasts beautifully with the variegated green and black marble base.
Beginning in the 19th century and flowing well into the 1920’s there was a strong influence on the decorative arts movement from Egyptian revivalists. Both pieces are signed by the artist Charles.
Charles, who was born in Paris in the late 1800’s, was a regular exhibitor at the Salon des Artistes Français.
