It is a monkey with a humorous expression holding a latern (which can be rewired) in one hand while the other is held to his ear.
A similar version of this piece has been photographed for inclusion in the book ‘Mascottes Automobiles’ by Michel Legrand. Le Verrier produced a small range of monkey subject mascots in the 1920s. This one is perhaps one of his most famous creations.
Boubou the Art Deco Monkey lamp / Sculpture is in lovely condition. As is evident from the pictures the power cable is cut as this piece is sold as decorative only. My suggestion would be to have it rewired as it is a stunning piece. No chips to the piece or its marble base.
